Claims vs. Ingredients
220 on-market products make a free-from or vegan claim and also list an ingredient that contradicts it, out of 54,229 that make such a claim. The rest agree with their own ingredient lists.
Labels say a lot in words: "vegan", "gluten free", "no artificial colors". The same label also carries an "other ingredients" list. We searched every statement on every on-market label for nine kinds of claim, then checked each product's excipient list for an ingredient that the claim rules out. The headline finding is that the two agree almost every time. This page lists the exceptions, so a reader can open the label and judge each one.

How to read this
- A conflict is a disagreement on the label, not a finding of mislabeling. Some are legal in context. FDA lets a product carry a gluten-free claim if it tests under 20 ppm gluten, which can include processed wheat-derived ingredients, and "sugar free" is allowed under 0.5 g of sugars per serving.
- The counts are a floor. A claim worded in a way we do not search for, or an ingredient named in an unusual way, is never counted. We match only against the "other ingredients" list, never against active ingredients, and a "vegan capsule" is not treated as a claim about the whole product.
- Claims can describe one component. A statement written for a single flavor or ingredient may sit on a label whose other flavors differ; DSLD records each label once, so the wording shown is what that label carries.
- The label may have changed. DSLD holds the label as submitted. A brand may have since fixed the statement, the ingredient list, or both.
