- 28.1% of products fall below the fairy-dust threshold (200 mg, 20% of the studied low dose).
- 35.2% of products don't disclose an amount because Taurine is declared inside a proprietary blend.

Search interest over time
How often people search for taurine on Google, US only, the last 5 years. This is public interest, not DSLD label data — a spike here doesn't necessarily line up with anything on this page, and Google's own index (100 = that term's peak popularity in the chosen window) is relative, not an absolute search-volume count.

Forms explained
Label discloses only "Taurine" with no salt or source form.
Reference values
- RDA (adult): not established — Endogenously synthesized sulfonic amino acid also found in animal foods; no RDA/AI exists.
- Tolerable Upper Intake Level (adult): not established — No UL established. Shao A, Hathcock JN 2008, Regul Toxicol Pharmacol 50(3):376-99, PMID 18325648, found no systematic adverse-effect pattern and so used the Observed Safe Level method instead: strong evidence of safety for supplemental taurine up to 3g/day in healthy adults (higher intakes tested without harm but data judged insufficient). An OSL is not a UL.
- Studied clinical dose range: 1000–6000 mg
- Waldron M et al. 2018, Sports Med 48(5):1247-1253, PMID 29546641 -- meta-analysis of 10 studies of isolated oral taurine and endurance performance; doses 1 to 6g/day (single doses and up to 2 weeks); pooled Hedges' g 0.40 (95% CI 0.12-0.67) for endurance performance, dose did not moderate the effect. Also Guan L, Miao P 2020, Eur J Pharmacol 885:173533, PMID 32871172 -- meta-analysis of 12 studies, 0.5-6g/day for 15 days to 6 months, mostly in patients with liver or metabolic dysregulation: lower systolic BP (WMD -4.67 mmHg), diastolic BP, total cholesterol and triglycerides.
- Note: Effectively a single ingredient (free amino acid); 'L-Taurine' is a labeling variant of the same molecule (taurine has no stereocenter). Magnesium taurate/taurinate appear as magnesium forms and are not aliased here; homotaurine (tramiprosate) is a different compound and is not aliased.
