- 54.6% of products fall below the fairy-dust threshold (1.4 mg, 20% of the studied low dose).
- 17.9% of products don't disclose an amount because Lycopene is declared inside a proprietary blend.

Search interest over time
How often people search for lycopene on Google, US only, the last 5 years. This is public interest, not DSLD label data — a spike here doesn't necessarily line up with anything on this page, and Google's own index (100 = that term's peak popularity in the chosen window) is relative, not an absolute search-volume count.

Forms explained
Label discloses only "Lycopene" with no source (tomato extract, fermentation, synthetic) or delivery form.
A row whose own name is a brand (Lyc-O-Mato, Tomat-O-Red, LycoBeads) declares tomato-extract mass, not lycopene, and is kept unresolved. Most common labeled source, but supplement-form lycopene sources (tomato oleoresin, beadlets, synthetic) were not verified against each other in head-to-head human bioavailability studies, so it is not ranked.
Source: Ried K, Fakler P 2011, Maturitas 68(4):299-310, PMID 21163596 (efficacy meta-analysis; source form not compared)
A small number of labels state fermentation as the source; no human bioavailability comparison against tomato-derived lycopene was verified, so it is not ranked.
Reference values
- RDA (adult): not established — Carotenoid found in tomato, not an essential nutrient; no DRI exists.
- Tolerable Upper Intake Level (adult): not established — Not established -- no IOM/NASEM UL exists; no safety ceiling was verified in this pass.
- Studied clinical dose range: 7–25 mg
- Gajendragadkar PR et al. 2014, PLoS One 9(6):e99070, PMID 24911964 -- double-blind RCT, 36 statin-treated CVD patients and 36 healthy volunteers, 7 mg lycopene/day x2 months; forearm endothelium-dependent vasodilatation improved 53% vs placebo in CVD patients (P=0.03), no change in healthy volunteers, BP/lipids unchanged. Ried K, Fakler P 2011, Maturitas 68(4):299-310, PMID 21163596 -- meta-analysis of 12 lipid studies (13 arms) and 4 BP studies; significant total-cholesterol lowering only in trials using >=25 mg/day (about 10% LDL reduction), systolic BP -5.6 mmHg (p=0.04). The 25 mg figure is the effect threshold in that meta-analysis, not a verified maximum studied dose.
- Note: Tomato-product trials (Cheng HM et al. 2017, Atherosclerosis 257:100-108, PMID 28129549; 21 intervention trials) found LDL, IL-6 and flow-mediated dilation improvements for tomato interventions and a -5.66 mmHg systolic BP effect for lycopene supplements. Brand rows (Lyc-O-Mato, Tomat-O-Red, LycoBeads) usually declare the lycopene content with the tomato extract in raw_form; where the row name is the brand itself the amount is the extract and is left unresolved rather than counted as lycopene. Rows in mcg are normalized to mg.
